BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
a. Under the provisions of the Smoke-Free Places Act R.S.A. 2005 all government buildings, banquet halls, entertainment facilities and enclosed public spaces, among other facilities, must be smoke-free if minors are permitted to enter.
b. While the prohibition under the Act statute does not regulate the exteriors of buildings or other public outdoor public spaces, the Town does, as operator of Town owned public facilities, have the authority to further limit smoking.
c. In the interests of further minimizing possible exposure of adults and particularly minors to second-hand smoke at the entrances of public facilities, a separation of those smoking outside public facilities from the entrances is deemed desirable.
1. Smoking in unenclosed and outdoor public spaces is prohibited within 6 meters from major public entrances on all Town owned property accessible to minors.
The use of smokeless tobacco is not allowed in the following owned facilities:
l. Lacombe Sports and Leisure Complex
2. Lacombe Memorial Center or successor facility.
