Designation of Community and Road Names, Civic Addressing |

Designation
of Community or Neighborhood Areas
1. Those areas of the Town for which Community Areas names
have been given are shown
on Map 1. 2. New community area names should be descriptive or should reflect the heritage or history of the area or of the Town. 3. Where
an undeveloped area of the Town is proposed for development and a
neighbourhood name has not already been designated, the developer shall
submit a recommended name to the Council for approval.
Council may reject, amend or substitute a name as it deems
appropriate. 4. The following new community areas are
named: a)
Michener - that area west of 58th Street and south of 50th Avenue
b) Wolfe
Creek Industrial Park - that area east of Highway 2A and north of CP
Rail - Lacombe Subdivision branch Designation of Streets and Avenues 5. All streets and avenues shall be formally
designated by the Town and are shown on Map 1. The following new names or designations will be given:
a) Len
Thompson Drive - naming the future street within the Wolfe Creek
Industrial Park
b) 63rd
Street - designating that street forming the entrance to Michener
Recreation Area and the Zig Zag convenience store. 6. The designation of avenues and streets by
number is preferred generally and shall be required for roadways which
are part of an integrated grid of roadways or for which number
designation would be critical to finding the particular roadway. 7. The roadway number designation shall conform
with the overall grid shown on Map 2. 8. Number designation shall not be required on
roadways:
i) which are laid out on a bias
ii) the route of which changes ordinate
directions or moves across the general number grid on Map 2 iii) on local roads within community areas 9. Where number designations are required or
used:
i) any roadway with and east-west
orientation shall be designated as an avenue
ii) any roadway with a north-south orientation
shall be designated as a street
iii) avenue numbering shall increase northward
iv) street numbering shall increase westward 10. Where an undeveloped area of the Town is proposed
for development and the use of named roadways are proposed, the developer
shall submit recommended roadway names to the Council for approval.
Council may reject, amend or substitute names as it deems
appropriate. 11. The names of local roadways shall closely reflect
the community name of the area. 12. Extensions of collector and arterial roads into new
development areas shall retain the existing names unless potential
confusion will arise. 13. The names or new collector and arterial roads
should be descriptive or should reflect the heritage or history of the
area or of the Town. 14. Roadways within the downtown area shall bear both a
number and the historic name and addressing may be referenced to either. 15. To establish greater consistency and logic in the
Civic Addressing System and for the purposes of implementing community
mailboxes the following street and avenue designations shall be changed:
a) Northeast
Industrial By-Pass Road shall be named Wolfe Creek Drive
b) 47A
Street shall be named Highway 2A
c) Airport
Road shall be designated as 63rd Avenue
d) In
the southeast industrial area:
i) 49th Street and 48th Street shall be
designated as 45A Street
ii) 45A Street and 44th Avenue shall be
designated as 46th Avenue
iii) 45th Avenue shall be designated as 47th Avenue
iv) 46th Avenue shall be designated as 48th
Avenue
v) East Boundary (Otto) Road shall be designated
as 34th Avenue
e) 50th
Avenue east of 45th Street will be designated as Highway 12 East Civic Addressing 16. The Town will assign a civic address to each parcel
of land, or where necessary, for utility or postal delivery reasons, to
suites, bays or units within a parcel of land and these are shown on Map 1 17. Within areas where the roadways are part of the
integrated grid of roadways, civic addresses shall be referenced to the
overall grid. 18. On local roadways that are named, civic addresses
may either reference the overall grid or be numbered sequentially from #1. 19. Addresses referencing the overall number grid shall
be of 4 digit format with the first two (2) digits representing the grid
road immediately to the east or south and the last two (2) digits being a
sequence increasing from south to north and east to west.
Number sequences shall leave at least on vacant whole number
between each lot in developed residential or commercial areas and
sufficient vacant numbers in less densely developed areas to allow future
subdivision and redevelopment. 20. Where ever possible addresses on the:
i) east and south side of a roadway shall
end in an odd digit, and
ii) west and north side of a roadway shall end in
an even digit 21. The owner of each property shall cause to be
displayed the assigned civic address at or near the front of the property
such that it may be clearly observed and read from the roadway.
Each person who contravenes this provision is guilty of an offence
and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than
Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) or not more than Five Hundred Dollars
($500.00).
