This study required the determination of external origins and
destinations to and from Highway 2 north/south, Highway 12 east/west and an
estimate for Highway 2A north/south. Observers
were located on Highway 12 just east of the Highway 2 interchange as well as on
Highway 12 just west of the Highway 2A intersection.
As the primary purpose of this study was to determine
the volume of truck traffic that traveled through the Towne of Lacombe on
Highway 12 without stopping, a complete cordon of the study area was not
considered essential. It was
recognized that while some truck traffic could be recorded on either end of the
study corridor, this truck traffic may have entered or left the Town on other
roads. This truck traffic was not
considered a through trip as it takes longer to travel though Lacombe using the
local road network when compared to staying on Highway 12.
