4.4.18       C&E Trail Connectivity

Many years ago, C&E Trail was disconnected north of 54th Avenue, and the lands located adjacent to that disconnection were developed as schools and a recreation centre. Since a significant proportion of the current and future residential development pressure will be centred on C&E Trail north of 63rd Avenue, it is clear that C&E Trail will increase in importance as a major north/south corridor vital to the maintenance of mobility for the residents of Lacombe.

Although discussed in more detail later in this report as part of the long term analysis, it is recommended that the Town consider the possibility of reconnecting C&E Trail. It is recognized that there will be land use issues as well as other technical issues in need of attention. However, the significance of this connection cannot be underestimated as it would serve to reduce traffic volumes in front of the schools and recreation centre while at the same time providing a vital connective link between residential areas north of 63rd Avenue and Highway 12.
