In order to develop forecasts for the 20,000 population horizon, the base information developed by Bunt & Associates was augmented with an assessment of traffic generation rates for a variety of land uses throughout the Town. Estimates were made of traffic generation by land use, and these were then cross-checked against one or more of the following criteria:
· Traffic counts undertaken by Bunt & Associates within the Town of Lacombe for residential and employment land uses.
· Standard published industry information regarding trip generation rates for various land uses.
· Traffic generation rates used in the 1990 Transportation Study completed for the Town.
· The Bunt & Associates database of traffic generation information as collected for numerous land use types throughout western Canada.
The exercise of establishing appropriate trip generation rates for the base land uses is summarized in the sections that follow.
