| INFORMATION | Recreation
Services Monthly Report Sandi Stewart, Community Recreation Coordinator reported that the LMC has reached its fundraising goal of 1.5 Million, with money still trickling in. The Grand Opening will take place this September. The Trail brochure will be updated and printed again this year, so if anyone has any changes or suggestions, please let Sandi know. The Art Exhibit and Sale will be taking place April 27-29 with Pat Matheson being the featured artist for this year's show. New at it this year will be wine tasting on Friday evening. Summer Art and Drama courses are being planned. Sandi has also been taking some training on the Integrated Municipal Sustainability Plan that the Town will be working on in the future. Calvin Bennefield, Facilities Manager, reported the trade show was just going two days & taking place this weekend. Lacross and In-Line Hockey will be running in the Arena this summer. The staff have been busy painting. The summer Park's staff will be starting in May. Arbour Day is May 9th, and the staff will do some tree planting. The Ball Diamonds will be ready for ball starting in May. Kinsmen
Aquatic Centre Monthly Report Lacombe Memorial Centre Ken Kendall reported the LMC is progressing. Tile work in the washrooms is complete. The mechanical system is taking longer than originally thought because of its complexity. We may not be ready for Mid June, so any internal booking will need to be rescheduled. From August to the end of the year is fully booked on the weekends and so we are now trying to fill in the weekdays and do multi bookings. The Brick/stucco should be done in about 3 weeks. Internal works like the staging, chairs, tables, etc. have all been received. May 30th the kitchen smallwares like plates should be in. Library shelving and furnishings were about 1/4 million dollars. MOTION: Moved by: Steve

Legacy Grant The Lacombe Girls Softball Association are applying for $750 in sport development funds left from Team Parkland Trials Legacy. MOTION: WHEREAS in 1989 Team Parkland Trials left a legacy for
sport development, and WHEREAS to date approximately three quarters of the funds have been allocated to local sports organizations to assist with leadership development, and WHEREAS a request for funding consideration from this program have been received from the Lacombe Girl’s Softball Association, and WHEREAS the application of the Lacombe Girl’s Softball Association is consistent with the criteria for the grant, THEREFORE THE BOARD RECOMMENDS TO COUNCIL THAT funds in the amount of $750 be granted to the Lacombe Girl’s Softball Association from the Team Parkland Trials Legacy Fund, with the understanding that if no other grant requests are received within the next week, that additional funds of $378 be given, for a total of $1128.Moved by: Dale

Henner's Pond Carol-Lynn Gilchrist, the Town's Planner, gave a in-depth presentation of the options around development of Henner's Pond. Option A would be the implementation of a natural park, which would be in line with our Natural Spaces Management plan and encourages wildlife habitat. Option B which allows greater access for the public would have an asphalt trail, require more maintenance and is described as an Urban Park. MOTION: THAT WHEREAS the terms of reference for the development of Henner’s

information and included the opportunity for the review of the plan by

Dick Student Recruitment for 2007-2008 Term Brittany Dick has agreed to stay on the Lacombe and District Recreation, Parks and Culture Board for a seconderm. Spray Park Ken Kendell reported that Construction will be starting in June for the opening to be around the end of August. The 30'x50' Spray Park will probably end up costing about $350,000 rather than the original $300,000 as previously projected. Ken asked the Board to think about operations of the Spray Park and if there should be a charge to use it (like a Loonie) or free admission, fenced or not, etc. and provide feedback at our next meeting. Other: Ken Announced Brenda Vaughan has been hired as our new Community Services Director. |
