COMMUNITY INPUT

The community had an opportunity to view the proposed plans for the trail.  On April 11, 2000, an open house and public meeting was held.  Approximately 53 people attended the open house over 20 provided a written response to the proposal.  Senior administration reviewed the plan and provided further comment.  Based on this input, key areas were identified by the committee for consideration.  The following considerations and revisions were made by the committee to the original proposal:

  1. Rosedale -  the committee feels that along the west side of Elizabeth Lake is the preferred route and the committee sees it would be necessary to work closely with the residents to address their security, safety and environmental concerns.

  2. Westview Drive – the second route on the high ground will be deleted.  Access to the trail on the lower slope will be to the north through the Laebon development.

  3. Access between Westview Drive and Garden Road (next to Tucker property) – this area will be deleted from the trail map.  It serves more as drainage easement although it provides access for people on Westview Drive to the Central Alberta Christian High School grounds.  If it is to be included as part of the trail a solution needs to be found to address the water and ice problem.

  4. English Estates – the trail through the easement behind Dickens Lane be removed.  East-west access would be from the laneway further north and across Coventry Lane.

  5. The Lakes – Stage 3 – the area around the Elizabeth Lake be left as natural trail instead of shale/gravel for the entire route.  Shale, gravel or boardwalks would be used to address erosion, access and traffic concerns. Therefore improvements as needed.  In some areas it may be necessary to move the trail to higher ground.

  6. Henner’s Pond – administration identified the north shore as an area where development of residential areas will go to the lake shore. The natural trail would be proposed until development occurs.

  7. Dendorfer property – request made to reroute the trail to the north of the lake south west of Barnett Lake.  The preferred route is to the south but may infringe on a future construction of a home.  This will need further review.

Additional areas that require upgrading that were not identified are:

  1.   Future upgrading of sections of Cranna Lake which are starting to break down.

  2. Low area on the trail on the north end of Kinsmen Park – area need to be built up to address the water problems.
