1930
The Lord Lascelles Chapter of the IODE  founded the Lacombe Public Library and opened on the second floor of the public school building located on the site of the Lest We Forget Memorial Park.

1945
Memorial Hall idea originally conceived as a "living memorial" to the veterans of the Second World War by the members of the Canadian Legion. Plans were drawn up and it was estimated to cost $25,000 to build. Later it was decided that the building should be a community effort rather than a Legion only sponsored building.

1945 Fall
A Memorial Recreation Hall Board was formed. Plans of proposed building - to cost around $40,000  - was submitted to the board made up of various community organizations.

1946
A drive for funds was started April 1 with a goal of $40,000.  Funding fell far short of its goal raising only $7,472.60 that year.

1947
Hall Board was reorganized and a committee was struck to carry on fundraising. The new board incorporated as the Lacombe Memorial Recreation Central Hall Association under the societies act. A new fundraising goal for the Memorial Recreation Centre (M.R.C.) was set at $20,000. A request to include bowling alleys in the building plans was adopted.

1948
It was agreed that the association should erect new ice arena and hall under one roof. As a result the fundraising goal was stepped up to $30,000. Meanwhile actual construction of the new building was started.

1949
A new slate of board members were elected. The building reached a point to allow limited use and the bowling alleys in the basement were opened in December

1950
Ratepayers voted to have the Town take over the unfinished building and debenture borrowing of $57,000 was okayed for this project.

1951
In its incomplete state the hall was home to a large electrical show, square dancers, carnivals and other activities.

The Library moved to the basement of the Lacombe Memorial Hall.

1952
Assets of approximately $100,000 represented in the construction of the building were handed over to the Town.

1953
Ratepayers vote to approve issuance of a debenture for $44,000 to complete the building. Before completion of building disastrous fire struck and in 45 minutes the hall arena burnt down.

1954
In December Town Council proposes that the arena and memorial recreation centre should be built as two separate halls. Also that the hall be re-constructed on the present town block site and the arena should be moved. Insurance money received of $200,000 be divided in half and shared equally for the re-construction of the new arena and new hall.  Construction to begin in the spring of 1954.

1955
New Lacombe Memorial Centre was opened and the Library was relocated from the Lacombe High School to the west annex (Kinsmen Hall). The Lacombe Public Library was the foundation for the first regional library in the province.

1956
The Parkland Regional Library System was formed and moved to another building. The Lacombe public library remained in the Kinsmen Hall

1985
The Library outgrew the space on the west side of the building and moved across the street to Parkland Place.

Today
The Lacombe Memorial Centre continues to be the centre of activity. A new facility is planned and the structure will once again include the Lacombe Public Library as well as a various halls and meeting rooms.
